What you Need to Know About DUI if You’re Hosting a Super Bowl Party

If you’re hosting a Super Bowl party this weekend in Homestead or your South Florida community, you’ll want to take steps to keep everyone at your party safe. Not only do you want to make sure they are having a good and safe time at your party, but as the host you have a responsibility to ensure you take steps to prevent drunk driving and other disasters.

Luckily, there are several things you can do to prevent drunk driving if you’re hosting:

1) Gather keys at the door.

When friends come over to watch the game, grab everyone’s car keys and put them in a big bowl. Only surrender keys when you know someone is sober enough to drive home.

2) Be ready for overnight guests.

Have blowup mattresses, futons, sofas, sleeping bags, and other options available for guests who are too drunk to drive home. Stock up on clean sheets and blankets. Being ready for overnight guests makes it easier for you to offer a safe night at and to discourage people from driving drunk.

3) Have extra cash on hand.

Have some cash on hand to pay for anyone’s cab home if they have been drinking at your party and can’t drive home sober.

4) Designate a driver.

Is there anyone in your home who isn’t a football fan? Gather up a few non-football fans and encourage them to be designated drivers. They can drive home anyone who’s been drinking to ensure their safety. Be sure you do something nice for designated drivers after Super Bowl week to show them your appreciation.

5) Keep servings reasonable.

Serve reasonable amounts of alcohol. Serving alcohol in excess or continuing to serve alcohol after you notice people are inebriated just contributes to the problem. Start reducing the servings later in the game. Offer plenty of water and non-alcohol beverages as well as food to help people sober up.

6) Hire a driver.

Hiring a party bus, sedan, or limo makes it easy for you and your friends to head out on the town after the game. This is especially important if you’ll be drinking at home and then heading out. A driver and party bus can be very affordable if everyone chips in and is a great way to get around, especially if you don’t live within easy access of taxis and public transit.
