Keeping your car tidy can make your vehicle more inviting, but did you know it can also help you stay safer? It’s true: an untidy car creates distractions and in the event of an accident anything in your car can become a projectile, putting you at risk of serious injury.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Florida leads the nation for motorcycle fatalities. This is especially troubling, since according to the AAA, about one in five motorcycle riders in the state does not have insurance.

According to the NHTSA, about 19% of the fatal accidents on Florida’s roads involve motorcycles. Some safety groups and the AAA blame Florida’s motorcycle helmet laws for at least some of the problem, noting that fatalities have doubled since the state repealed a helmet law. Currently, adult riders of motorcycles can choose not to wear a helmet, as long as they have adequate insurance coverage.

In Hollywood and across South Florida, car accidents cause severe devastating injuries every year. One of the more serious injuries that can be sustained in a car crash is an internal injury. Internal injuries occur when blood vessels or organs inside the body are damaged, causing bleeding inside the body.

Internal injuries can be caused by blunt force trauma or by penetrating injuries. In a car accident, if a person is thrown around with enough force, especially at high speeds, blood vessels or organs inside the body can be crushed or torn. Similarly, if an object is hurtled towards a passenger at high speeds, it can pierce the skin and layers of tissue to cause damage to the blood vessels and even major organs.

Wrong way accidents in Hollywood and South Florida are terrifying. One minute, you may be happily driving your car down the highway or road and the next instant you may be facing a car speeding towards you in your lane. You may not have enough time to react, and the resulting head-on collision in Hollywood or your community can be serious enough to claim lives.

The interesting thing about wrong way accidents is that they really shouldn’t happen at all. All drivers are carefully instructed to stay in their lanes when driving and road signs clearly indicate the direction of traffic to prevent wrong way accidents. On highways, medians, large signs, and other design features are often in place to help prevent wrong way crash.

With holiday shopping in full swing, you need to be aware that if you’re taking your car to Hollywood and South Florida retail areas, you need to use added caution. According to insurers, up to a quarter of car accidents during the holiday season are parking lot accidents.

Although parking lot accidents tend to be lower speed accidents and therefore less likely than trucking collisions to lead to permanent injuries and fatalities, they can still be serious. An unexpected parking lot accident or rear end accident in a Hollywood shopping area can lead to whiplash, head trauma, and other serious injuries. In addition, if you’re struck by a car as you’re walking to or from a store, your injuries can be life-threatening. As a pedestrian, you are simply more at risk for serious, even fatal injuries.

Now that school is back in session, your children may be relying on the school bus to get to and from school safely. Studies have shown that school bus accidents in Hollywood and the rest of the country are far rarer than car accidents, but injuries involving school buses still do occur and parents have every right to be concerned about their children’s safety.

While taking a school bus to school is safer than walking or getting a ride in a car, children are not invulnerable. The biggest dangers are when children are heading to or from the school bus. Injuries can also occur while the bus is in motion – especially if children get up from their seats.

Even if you don’t have children, the back-to-school season can affect you if you’re a motorist. Children are headed back to classes next month, and this will mean more pedestrian traffic as well as more motorists on Hollywood and Florida roads during your morning and afternoon commute. Even now, you may be seeing more traffic on the roads as families tackle back-to-school shopping or try to fit in one last vacation.

For many families, the car becomes especially important in summer months. You may be loading up the car in order to take your teenagers to their dorm room or may be packing up the car for a long road trip or a camp trip. If you’re headed to the lake, your car may double as a boat tow or may contain all of your equipment for enjoying a day on the water.

In these situations, it’s easy to overload your car. Unfortunately, this can be a deadly mistake. Overloading your car can:

  • Add additional weight to the vehicle, changing how the car handles
  • Lead to unevenly distributed weight, causing a higher risk of Hollywood rollovers and other types of collisions
  • Create more blind spots or can block your visibility, leading to car crashes
  • Cause severe injury, since anything you stow inside the vehicle can become a projectile during a car crash

Wrong-way car accidents in Homestead and other Florida communities result in serious injuries and fatalities each year, and are highly preventable collisions. Florida ranks third in the nation when it comes to wrong-way accident deaths. These types of crashes are often caused by drunk driving or distracted driving, but authorities have noted that in many cases it is difficult to catch a driver headed the wrong way until a collision occurs.

Types of Wrong Way Crashes

Wrong way car accidents can cause serious and fatal injuries. Often, a drunk driver will be heading the wrong way at high speeds, so the force of the collision is significant enough to cause serious damage. In addition, these collisions tend to happen on ramps, where cars are still traveling at higher speeds because they are entering or leaving highways.

I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately.
